Williams, Da'Michael Horne Named HBK
Players of the Game vs. Liberty
Youngstown – Senior
wide receivers Ferlando Williams and
Da'Michael Horne were named the Hill
Barth & King Offensive Players of
the Game, while Horne garnered the
Special Teams Player of the Game as
well for their performances against
Liberty. No defensive award was
presented this week.
Williams and Horne combined to make 16 receptions for
136 yards. The pair became the first
YSU tandem since Rick Shepas and
Elliott Fedd to have at least seven
receptions in the same game.
Williams finished with a career-high
nine catches while Horne had a
career-best seven.
Horne was also named the Special Teams Player of the Game. He
returned a kickoff 23 yards for a
score and had a tackle on a kickoff
coverage.
Earning the Jermaine Hopkins Defensive Lineman of the Game
honor was true freshman defensive
end Stephen Meadows. Meadows had
half a sack in the contest and came
on late to help the defensive unit
because of injuries. The Jim Zdelar
Offensive Lineman of the Game was
not awarded.
Earning Scout team honors for their
performances during the week were
freshman offensive lineman D.J. Main
(offense), redshirt freshman
linebacker David Rach (defense) and
freshman cornerback Bryan Gaiters
(special teams).
Rach was the recipient of the W.O.W./Derek Pixley Hit of the
Week which came on YSU's first
kickoff of the evening.
Quarterback Brandon Summers was
selected as the Haines Family Player
of the Game by the YSU radio
broadcast crew. Summers set a school
mark by completing 32 passes in the
game. He threw for 334 yards and
three touchdowns in a losing effort.
Williams was selected as the
recipient of the Wachovia Leadership
Award as well.
After spending the past three
Saturday's at home,
the Penguins go back on the road
this weekend to play Southern Utah
(2-3). The Thunderbirds enter the
contest following an impressive
34-20 win at Texas State.
Saturday's game at the Eccles Coliseum is set for 3 p.m.
Eastern/1 p.m. Mountain Time. The
contest will be carried in
Youngstown on 570 WKBN. There is no
television for the game.
