Swenson's Complete Game Win Salvages
Split for Penguins
Indianapolis
-- Youngstown State sophomore
Aaron Swenson held Butler to one run
in a complete game victory to
salvage a doubleheader split for the
Penguins on Saturday afternoon.
Swenson scattered eight hits and did not walk a batter to
earn his first victory of the year
as the Penguins scored two runs in
the eighth for a 2-1 win. Butler won
game one 4-1.
The Bulldogs had three of their hits in the first inning when
they scored their only run. After
Swenson retired the first two
hitters, Kyle McLaughlin and Grant
Fillipitch hit back-to-back singles.
Ryan Neat then doubled to right to
score McLaughlin before Fillipitch
was thrown out at the plate on a
relay from C.J. Morris to David
Leon.
The Penguins got two hits in the second but stranded both
runners, and Butler starter Bryan
Bokowy held them without another hit
until the eighth. Pinch hitter Jason
Reitenbach drew a one-out walk and
went to third when Bokowy threw wild
trying to pick him off. Leon then
tied the score with a single up the
middle, and Sean Lucas followed with
a double to left that scored Leon
with the game-winner.
In game one the Penguins were held to three hits by Butler
starter Ryan Kruszka.
The Bulldogs got an unearned run in the first and added two
more in the fourth on back-to-back
RBI doubles from Joe Pauley and
Colin Ziegel.
Josh Page got the Penguins within two in the sixth when he
singled home Morris, but Butler
answered in the bottom half when
Jason Jamerson singled home Pauley.
YSU starter Chuck Schiffhauer allowed all four runs on eight
hits in 5.1 innings in a losing
effort. Reliever Corey Vukovic
allowed just one hit and struck out
two in 2.2 innings.
Joe Ochs did not allow a run or hit in two scoreless innings
of relief for Butler to earn his
first save.
Weather permitting, the Penguins will host IUP in their
opener Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Cene
Park. |
