as the Titans topped Wright State 7-3 in an elimination game of the Horizon
League Championship on Thursday afternoon at Eastwood Field.
The Titans (19-37) advance to play the winner of the Butler
and UW-Milwaukee game Friday at 2:30 p.m. The Raiders finish the season
22-34 and bid farewell to head coach Ron Nischwitz, who coached the final game
of his 30-year career.
Jason Chapieski had three hits to lead Detroit's 13-hit
attack while Matt Barhorst, Chris Jergens and Dan Biedenharn had two hits apiece
for the Raiders.
Poley threw the first 5 1/3 innings as he allowed three runs
on six hits while Daniel Dobberwosky and Adam Myers combined for 3 2/3 innings
of scoreless relief. Kyle Kearcher was tagged with the loss for the
Raiders as he allowed six runs over the first 4 1/3 innings.
Detroit scored twice in the second to go up 2-0 as Mark
Moehlig singled home Poley and scored on a single from Dustin Wiley.
Wright State cut the margin in half in the bottom half of the
frame when Jergens singled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Justin Wilson.
The Titans got the run back in the top of the third on an RBI
single from Charlie Anderson and tallied three more in the fifth on a two-run
double from Jamey Embree and Poley's RBI single to take a 6-1 lead.
After Detroit added another run in the top of the sixth, the
Raiders tallied two runs in the bottom half of the inning when Jergens connected
for an RBI single and Ross Oeder was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for
the final tally.
